Modernist tour goers won’t have to miss this year’s Annual Mid Century Modern Design Series from Restore Oregon. The historic preservation group has pivoted their tour model in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and have turned their offerings digital! This means that patrons who support the organization’s preservation efforts by buying a ticket to the series between now and July 31st, can enjoy the lectures, tours and publications online and at their leisure.
How It Works
As usual, the Design Series is comprised of a variety of offerings from lectures to home tours. This year, the lectures (three of them) are offered as webinars covering topics such as the History of Pacific Northwest Modernism and Buying & Selling Pacific Northwest Mid-Century Modern Architecture. Then for the tour, Restore Oregon has partnered with a local vendor, 360 PDX Real Estate Photography, to use state-of-the-art 3D technology, called Matterport, to deliver three tours to ticket holders at the push of a button. The Matterport technology provides a 360-virtual tour that allows tour-goers to get up close and personal with every fixture and fabric in the home. It’s the same technology that the Smithsonian recently used to offer virtual tours of 5 heritage landmarks in Egypt.
“Once a someone buys a ticket, they will receive one or two digital books (depending on what they purchased; Part 1, Part 2, or both) to access the digital content in form of a flip book/digital magazine,” says Jeannette Shupp, marketing manager for Restore Oregon. “All links for the 2020 Mid-Century Modern Design Series digital books will be available through July 31st. Ticket holders may access the books as frequently as they would like during that time.”
