How do you create a cozy MCM reading nook with an open floor plan? Well, these living rooms give some ideas for how to demarcate a cozy reading nook. Some of us may have the desire to read year-round, but it’s an especially pronounced instinct in the colder months when the early darkness drives us inside to curl up under a blanket with a steaming mug and a good book or magazine in-hand. We also–naturally–have some reading recommendations!
Fire Side
Your reading nook doesn’t have to involve a lot of furniture–just a comfy chair close to fire and close to a storage wall unit or bookshelf is all you need. Something about rocking chairs are especially relaxing, and the warm texture and color of this one in particular is striking. The warm natural textures of the wall hanging and lighting pendant in contrast to the dark brick wall increases the sense of coziness. And the icing on the cake is that orange textured pillow!
Kick Up Your Feet
This living room has multiple options for a cozy reading nook, demarcated by the shag rugs and interior breeze block wall. Sprawl out on the sofa, prop up your feet in the white Eames loung chair, or in the leather armchairs by the window. This living room retains the open, airy feel while also creating cozyness through the warm textures of the rugs and throw blankets in easy reach of both reading zones.
Reading Within Reach
Adjustable end table allows you to keep your reading and mug within easy reach. If your cat likes it, chances are it’s a pretty cozy spot. (But we think this daybed is probably more human-friendly than the top of the refrigerator!)
Bench Warming
Who says keeping the bench warm is such a bad thing? We wouldn’t mind spending an afternoon, or any time really, on this built-in bench seating. Plenty of natural light and warm wood walls give this MCM reading nook a delightful balance between spaciousness and coziness.
A Calm & Cozy MCM Reading Nook
The chartruese colored Womb chair right by floor-to-ceiling windows and the small end table gives you just enough room for your mug and reading material (and reading glasses as the case may be). The sofa also provides another seating option with a built-in circular table on one end and a coffee table within easy reach. Everything in this casita is well-chosen for a small space that still feels both airy and cozy.
