Urban Americana

Urban Americana is Long Beach’s ultimate source for vintage furniture and home décor. Our mid century warehouse stretches more than 16,000 square feet and houses an incredible variety of unique home goods. Far Out Finds

Far Out Finds is a husband and wife team (Steve Mitrani and Chelsy Mitchell). Steve writes about their business, “We have been importing and restoring vintage Danish Modern furniture since 2013. We started out in Brooklyn working in art studio style warehouse spaces. We quickly outgrew them and moved our life and business to Gardiner, NY in the Hudson Valley in 2018. And just last year we built a separate standalone endgame workshop / warehouse on our property that we designed to accommodate our refinishing work as well as any other direction the business may go.”

While they personally service the New York City metro area, they also offer long-distance shipping. Far Out Finds takes pride in every step of their process. Steve elaborates, “We are personally involved in every single step of the process from sourcing the furniture in Denmark, unloading into our workshop, taking photos of and measuring the furniture for upload to our website, customer interaction, refinishing, and delivering the furniture. Nothing is outsourced (except long distance shipping).”

“Aside from the design style we work with, which speaks for itself,” Steve continues, “the craft of refinishing the furniture is the real core of our business. We treat every single piece that comes through our shop as if it will stand in our own home (which some does). We have refinished several thousand pieces of Danish Modern design, and an ever-rotating selection from this number lives in our home. They range from pieces by classic designers to unattributed designs, and we have a soft spot for the work of Johannes Andersen.”

What’s more, Steve says, “We focus on the quality of the design itself, regardless of the maker or designer. This allows us to offer a truly beautiful selection of furniture and design at a very reasonable price. (Not kidding, our pricing is pretty dang good for this stuff!)”

Lanoba Design

Part of what makes Lanoba Designs especially authentic is that the products are sourced directly from private homes, rather than dealers, in Denmark. Lanoba Designs is also a couple-powered team with David, born in Chicago, and Lars, born in Denmark. Lars grew up restoring Danish furniture, and after coming to the US, he and his partner David realized there was a gap in the market for quality, restored Danish modern furniture that wasn’t either super high-end or overpriced given the condition.

Lanoba Design tells their story, “So Lars set out, back to his Danish homeland, to find great furniture that could be shipped back to the US and be fully refurbished. The goal was to make Danish mid-century more attainable to middle-class buyers by focusing on quality design and not necessarily high-end designer names. By sourcing directly from private homes in Denmark, Lars was able to create his own supply chain and bring more affordable vintage design to the US market. His pride in his country, the design history and craftsmanship pushed him to find great pieces that could be brought back to life and not just cleaned up and flipped for sale.

“Three to four times a year, Lars travels back to Denmark and sources furniture, and since 2016 they have brought over more than 16,000 pieces, or about seven to nine 40’ containers per year. Most of the clients are in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Tristate, but have weekly shipments going out to the rest of The U.S. Most is sold to end customers but quite a few pieces have made it into movies and TV-shows.”
