Expert Panelists on Remodeling Mid Century Modern Marvels

Jickie Torres: With more than 15 years in the publishing industry, Jickie is a leader in all things architecture, home and décor. She works as the editor of Atomic Ranch, has hosted panels for Modernism Week, and appears frequently on Mid Century Modern and home podcasts across the country. When she’s not writing, styling, or photographing, Jickie works on her own renovation of a 1951 Mid Century Modern ranch in Southern California.
Dick Burkett: Dick’s background blends interior design, marketing and hotel management. His intro to historic properties began as Manager of the Essex House, NYC. He subsequently created a development company in Florida and owned trade showrooms in Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia, and later managed showrooms in New York, Chicago and Miami. In addition, he developed an imports and design business in Mexico.
Having personally renovated and restored numerous homes of architectural styles, Dick now works as a designer in Palm Springs. He has lived in the area since 2005 and has been an active volunteer with PS ModCom since. Dick also currently serves as Vice Chair of the Palm Springs Historic Preservation Board, is a member of PSPF, the Architecture & Design Council, PS Art Museum Legacy Circle and Plaza Theater Committee.
Tom Dolle: One of the country’s top visual communications, branding and marketing specialists, Tom is heavily involved in the Palm Springs community and has contributed his graphic skill to Modernism Week. His work as Creative Director of Destination PSP showcases his amazing eye for MCM design, PLUS his own amazing remodeled home is featured in our book!

Kevin Kemper and Howard Hawkes: The duo are Palm Springs design/build experts and founders of local interior design firm H3K Design. With their guidance, will be touring a house steeped in California modernist history that’s been newly revived with the vibrant style of H3K. Designed by architect Edward Fickett most known for his Mid Century Modern homes in the Hollywood hills, the beaches of Palos Verdes and the LA’s fashionable valley, this house stands as a truly unique desert treasure.

Steven Shields is the founder of Shields Residential, a Palm Springs-local contracting and build firm responsible for many incredible renovated mid century homes in the area. On this talk & tour Steven shares his insight and expert advice in the marvelous setting of a completely renovated Vista Las Palmas stunner. Tour a glamorous beauty he completed with interior design by Michelle Boudreau.
