It’s not every day that you could have the chance to live in a Neutra of your own—- and it’s even rarer that you could have the chance to live in a nautical-themed one too! But it’s your lucky day: this 5,100 sq. ft California Neutra is for rent. And it can be yours for (only) $13,500 a month.
The home was built in Rancho Palos Verdes in 1957 for shipping magnate John Rados. He purchased the 1.25-acre lot earlier that decade for its Los Angeles port views— a decision fitting for a man who had made his fortune off of boats.
Rados hired Richard Neutra to design his home and Neutra created one of his largest single-family projects to date. The home holds 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 2 dining rooms, a full bar and a sewing room! There is also extensive outdoor living space and a spacious swimming pool.
The Rancho Palos Verdes home is dotted with nautical motifs, like marine-grade mahogany beams, porthole windows and a porthole door to the pool. But from the street, the home looks quite unassuming! Tucked behind a long private driveway, its stone and slatted-wood interior hides what sits behind its facade.
Inside the luxurious home, you’ll find a hanging fireplace (definitely one of our favorite features), terrazzo flooring and floor-to-ceiling windows that offer a 270-degree view of the surrounding Los Angeles landscape.
