Whether it’s the ocean, Disney attractions or family fun that beckons you to Orlando, there are some must-see ventures that midcentury modern enthusiasts will enjoy. Of course there is plenty to do, but you could benefit from some tips to experience the cream-of-the crop midcentury shopping spots, palette pleasing eating and cocktail establishments, and a quintessential midcentury visit to the happiest of places.

It covers a large area with plenty of parking options.
URBANISTA – 1618 SOMETHING DIFFERENT
Although Urbanista manages Real Estate, it’s the recent addition of 1618 Something Different mid-mod furniture store that perked our ears. This store is located in the heart of downtown Orlando’s Thornton Park District and let’s just say it is a “got to go there” vintage furniture store. 1618 N. Orange Ave, Orlando, FL 32804; call (407) 897-6707 or visit urbanistaorlando.com.

WHERE TO EAT
KRES CHOP HOUSE
If you’re looking for a modern steakhouse experience that shuns a dated vibe, then Kres Chop House is a great place to make a reservation. After a day of experiencing what Orlando has to offer you will delight in having a cooked-to-perfection filet mignon, ribeye, pork chop or seafood catch of the day. We’re getting hungry just talking about it.
WAITIKI
What’s better than a collection of fun, food and entertainment venues all in one location? Answer: nothing. Our favorite, Waitiki will feed the need for “Tiki” that some of you midcentury fans cultivate and desire. Their bar food has been appointed Orlando’s Best, and the list of drinks will have you belly-to-the-bar. Enjoy a Dark & Stormy, or the Waitiki Fish Bowl, or the Goombay Smash at this Wall Street Plaza favorite. Wall St. Plaza, 26 Wall St., Orlando, FL 32801; call (407) 481-1199 or visit wallstplaza.net/venues/waitiki. Open MON 5p-2a, TUES-FRI 4p-2a.
BIG FIN SEAFOOD KITCHEN
This eating establishment has been awarded so many Awards of Excellence we have lost track. You know it’s superb if Zagat, Trip Adviser, Open Table and Expedia concede that Big Fin Seafood Kitchen “checks the box” in all areas of customer experience. Fresh, plentiful and prepared with class, enjoying a meal at Big Fin Seafood Kitchen will likely cause you to hand out an award of your own.
WHAT TO DO
THE ORLANDO EYE
If the urge to see the wide open spaces comes over you, then you’ve got to take a look at the Orlando Eye. Keep your fear of heights in check because you get to experience a view of Orlando from 400 feet above the ground. This is the tallest observational point in the Eastern United States. We recommend going on a clear day to ensure a spectacular view, which includes a view of Cape Canaveral and even the East Coast.
KINGS
Take a step back in time, but you won’t give up the modern amenities at this food, drink and games establishment. A lively combination of activities will certainly keep you busy and playful. Whether you like to play Bocce Ball, ping pong, foosball or bowl a frame or two, this is a must stop-and-stay-awhile destination. The midcentury motif makes it that much more enjoyable. 8255 International Dr., Suite 120 (next to the Orlando Eye); call (407)363-0200 or visit kingsbowlamerica.com. Open MON-SUN 11a-2a.
DISNEY WORLD’S MAGIC KINGDOM
Sure there are plenty of Disney things to do in Orlando, but if you’ve got a soft spot for the 1955 midcentury vibe that exudes from the original Disneyland in California, then a trip to the Magic Kingdom is a must. Replicated from Walt’s initial foray into the theme park business, the Magic Kingdom offers you a glimpse into his genius and love for creating fun for the whole family. Be a kid again. We recommend it.
