MCM kitchens tend to run on the smaller side, and that means storage is often a struggle. Make the most of what storage space your kitchen has with this advice from Amanda Burns Clark, professional owner of Ever So Organized, a full-service organizing business, and Eichler homeowner.
MCM Kitchen Organization Strategy
Sometimes when it comes to organizing, it can be hard to know when you should declutter and reduce what you have and when you need to go out and buy organizational helpers. We put the dilema to Amanda, and here three of her pro tips.
1. Start by decluttering the food storage containers.
Everyone has too many of these containers (such as these ones pictured above). Six to 8 options in different sizes is enough and so much easier to keep organized. The bonus is they nest so they take up less storage space.
2. Use matching labels.
3. Audit your pantry.
MCM Kitchen Organization Helpers
Once you’ve done those three steps, you’ll have a better idea of what you actually need to buy.
Worried that reusable water bottles or insulated travel mugs may come tumbling out of your cabinet every time you open it? These wine bottle holders are a great solution to keep bottles from toppling over, plus it makes it super easy to grab the one you want. It will no longer feel like you are tempting fate when you go to grab your favorite.
Using expandable bamboo drawer dividers helps keep items in their place. We use them for glasses, tea towels, even dishes in deep drawers. (Like the ones we used in Chris and Jeanine’s kitchen).
Whenever possible, use vertical space. Store cookie sheets, cutting boards and pans on their sides. We use an expandable cookware rack by YouCopia for this purpose.
