You’ve booked your flight to Palm Springs, made your hotel reservations, and are eagerly awaiting Modernism Week this October. But besides cocktail hour and dinner parties, you are still looking to make the best of your mid-mod-mecca vacation. Don’t worry, we are here to help! Fill your weekend with our upcoming events that celebrate the spirit of Palm Springs and school you in the ways of Mid Century Modern design.
A Twin Palms Homeowners Journey
See how one couple bridged original features to modern updates in a way that perfectly honors this 1959 home built by famed midcentury local contractor Thor Frederickson.
Begin with a tour of the house which boasts floor-to-ceiling glass showcasing a tear drop shaped swimming pool, clerestory windows, flat roofline supported by a span of 36-foot beams, acoustical plaster ceilings, split floor plan, as well as an impressive stone fireplace that anchors the home to the landscape; all with generous unobstructed views of the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains. Then join us outside with some refreshing sips and enjoy the signature Atomic Ranch Live poolside chat sponsored by Architectural Glazing, featuring Atomic Ranch editor Jickie Torres and the homeowners as they share their journey renovating and decorating this Palm Springs treasure.
Kirk Douglas Estate: A Talk & Tour with John Moran Auctioneers
Experience rare access to a home behind the rock wall and step foot into one of the one Palms Springs’ most storied modernist estates. Built during the golden age of Hollywood, the Kirk Douglas Estate – constructed in 1954 by master builder Bob Higgins and designed by none other than Wexler & Harrison – is a testament to where Old Hollywood glamour and visionary desert design combine.
Be treated to some bubbly refreshments then gather out by the pool to enjoy a chat led by Atomic Ranch editor, Jickie Torres, and art and collectibles experts from John Moran Auctioneers along with the homeowners with the creative minds behind the renovation and remodel and learn how the current owners carefully restored and gently updated the home to bring it back to its midcentury modern roots.
Free Mocktail Party and Book Signing Hosted by Scott Ehrens
Enjoy delicious mocktails from Lyre’s and take in this beautiful and rare historic property in the gorgeous Deepwell neighborhood designed in 1959 for developer Samuel Pascal as his personal residence. Then mix and mingle with the Atomic Ranch team and Palms Springs real estate expert Scott Ehrens. Copies of our book, Atomic Ranch Remodeled Marvels, will be available to be signed by author and editor Jickie Torres.
This event is free but $50 VIP tickets (which include a discounted signed copy of the book plus an Atomic Ranch swag bag) are available on a first come first served basis.
